A couple of weeks ago this Letter to the Editor appeared in the Daily Universe:
Today when I walked over to that area I noticed the "Honors Reading Room" sign is no longer there and there is a sign in one of the windows that says "Quiet Study Area, Everyone Welcome."Honors Reading Room
As I entered the library today and saw the new "Honors Reading Room," I was once again not impressed with BYU's use of funds. Maybe I'm missing the point, but all it seems to me is a room exactly the same as the room next to it where students can go and make their status as honors students known instead of casually dropping it in conversation.
Naturally, I invited myself in (after all, I had taken an honors class freshman year). After looking around I could tell I wasn't the only non-honors student there. If I were an actual honors student, I would be displeased to see the likes of me and other non-honors students in my space. Perhaps they could increase student employment and hire someone to keep people like me out -- or have a $20 fine for found in the honors reading room without proper credentials (that seems to be the magic number for fines). Just some ideas.
Although I did feel more intelligent, it just wasn't enough to compensate for the months of power drill noise that we had to endure over the spring/summer terms during construction of the new wall of segregation, or the large amount of money it must have cost. I would rather them spend the money to replace the anti-honor code 1970's gym mini-shorts provided in the RB. But hey, that's just me. You can all go give it a try and see what the new Honors Reading Room does for you.

I was greatly amused.
Edit: ok, the Honors Reading Room sign is actually still there, but the sign in the window does welcome anyone.

Random... but I was seeing what the internet knew about me and I found this. I actually wrote that letter way back when - glad to hear someone else found it amusing. Good luck with whatever you're doing. :)
